In remembrance: Former U.S. Ambassador to Sweden Mrs. Azita Raji

The American community in Sweden is saddened by the recent passing of former U.S. Ambassador, Mrs. Azita Raji, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Sweden between March 2016 and January 2017.

Ambassador Raji was nominated for the State Department’s highest award for a non-career ambassador, the Sue M. Cobb Prize for Exemplary Diplomatic Service. She was the first female United States Ambassador to Sweden, as well as the first Iranian-born American to serve as an Ambassador of the United States.

Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and the dedicated diplomatic corps and staff at the U.S. Embassy. She was a gracious and effective Ambassador and we were fortunate to work with her to strengthen commercial ties between the United States and Sweden.
