Harvard Business Review Press: Amy Gallo

We all want to get along with our coworkers — when we do we are more productive, engaged, and creative. But that’s not always possible, and we only reinforce negative dynamics when we assume all difficult people are “jerks”. Fortunately, we don’t have to grin and bear bad behavior at work.

There are ways to change our approach, improve our interactions, and even turn enemies into allies. As a bonus, when we navigate work relationships successfully, we build interpersonal resilience. This helps us bounce back quicker from negative interactions and have less stress going forward.

AmCham Sweden invites you to join us as Harvard Business Review Press contributing editor Amy Gallo presents Getting Along: How to Work With Anyone (Even Difficult People).

Gallo shares insights, tools, and techniques based on interviews she conducted over more than a decade with social psychologists, workplace experts, and neuroscientists about dealing with difficult coworkers.

She shares painful stories from people who have dealt with difficult coworkers — and reveals how many were able to transform negative working relationships to more positive ones. Some made the tough call to leave their jobs to preserve their mental health, while others were able to develop coping mechanisms to improve their situation.
