Sweden is falling behind in the UN's sustainability goal to eliminate new HIV infections by 2030. Never before have so many people been living with HIV in Sweden as today. It is possible to age and live a life like everyone else with today's HIV medications, but there are also major challenges.
Sweden will work towards the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. These targets mean that by 2026, 95% of people living with HIV will be aware of it. 95% of people living with HIV should have access to treatment. 95% of these should have well-tuned treatment with immeasurable virus levels and thus infection-free HIV. It is possible to go all the way with the right efforts.
The Public Health Agency of Sweden has been tasked with producing an updated HIV strategy and a clear plan. Expectations are high. What specific measures should the strategy include to achieve the UN's goals and create a better quality of life for people living with HIV? How does Sweden compare with the other Nordic countries when it comes to achieving the UN's goals? How prepared are regions and municipalities to meet people living with HIV in everyday life, healthcare and care for the elderly?
