HIV transmission should be eliminated by 2030 - but never before have so many people in Sweden lived with HIV. What can we do?

Please note: this program will be conducted in Swedish.

Sweden is falling behind in the UN's sustainability goal to eliminate new HIV infections by 2030. Never before have so many people been living with HIV in Sweden as today. It is possible to age and live a life like everyone else with today's HIV medications, but there are also major challenges.

Sweden will work towards the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. These targets mean that by 2026, 95% of people living with HIV will be aware of it. 95% of people living with HIV should have access to treatment. 95% of these should have well-tuned treatment with immeasurable virus levels and thus infection-free HIV. It is possible to go all the way with the right efforts.

The Public Health Agency of Sweden has been tasked with producing an updated HIV strategy and a clear plan. Expectations are high. What specific measures should the strategy include to achieve the UN's goals and create a better quality of life for people living with HIV? How does Sweden compare with the other Nordic countries when it comes to achieving the UN's goals? How prepared are regions and municipalities to meet people living with HIV in everyday life, healthcare and care for the elderly?

How to harness refugee talent in Sweden

Please note this program is by invitation only.

At a time when many Swedish companies are struggling to meet their skills needs, it has never been more important to business to leverage untapped talent pools. Despite having the legal right to work, a high number of the almost 300,000 refugees living in Sweden are unemployed or employed in roles below their skill level.

With opening remarks by Ambassador Erik D. Ramanathan, this event will include and update from Karin Heri of Partnerships for Refugees on actions the private sector is taking to help integrate refugees into their workforce in Sweden. You’ll also hear contributions from representatives of some leading companies stepping up to include refugees.

Music export, copyright and tech – will Sweden lead the way as the innovation nation?

Music export, copyright and tech – will Sweden lead the way as the innovation nation?

Swedish songwriters are an important part of the U.S. music industry and the interdependence between Sweden and the U.S. are crucial for the music industry. Innovation and tech are rapidly evolving and several matters must be resolved for Sweden to maintain its position.

How can Sweden lead the way in creative songwriting as well as being a leading tech-innovation country? Sweden is a music nation to be reckoned with and the contribution of the music industry to exports and the exchange with the U.S. cannot be underestimated. Sweden is also known as a tech-innovation country and seeks to be at the forefront and lead the way in how to co-innovate and create sustainable business models for the future. For instance, AI will provide possibilities and challenges that we can only see fragments of today and will have a major impact on the music industry. The music industry can, however, be disrupted if AI is not regulated in the right way, but if properly managed, it can contribute to the positive view of Sweden as a music nation and a tech-enabler.

Will Sweden take a proactive stance on tech and innovation but still respect the value of copyright and strengthen the cultural and creative industry, and the exports and jobs the industry creates?

#StandWithUkraine

Almedalen 2024 marks nearly 900 days since Russia launched its unprovoked, unjustified, all-out assault on the free people of Ukraine. In the nearly 900 days that have passed, we have witnessed the unbreakable spirit and determination of the Ukrainian people.

But Ukraine’s fight is part of something much bigger than itself. With Russia’s full-scale invasion in its third year, this panel discussion will look at the central role Ukrainian victory and liberation of all occupied territories have in ensuring peace, security, and freedom for Ukraine, Europe, and the international community. At this critical time, join us at the American Garden to #StandWithUkraine and its future as an independent, democratic European country free to choose its path into the EU and NATO.

Participants:

  • Pavlo Klimkin, former Foreign Minister of Ukraine

  • Sevgil Musaeva, Ukrainian journalist, chief-editor of Ukrainska Pravda

The Future of Learning – Can XR Technology Enhance Sweden's Industries and Education Sector?

Please note the program will be held in Swedish.

How does the introduction of Extended Reality (XR) technologies impact Swedish businesses and the education sector? What opportunities and challenges arise from integrating these innovative technologies to improve learning processes and increase productivity across various sectors?

This seminar will highlight how Sweden can leverage Extended Reality (XR) to elevate skill levels and accelerate innovation in both private enterprises and the education sector. The discussion will focus on implementing XR solutions not only within industrial training programs but also in primary schools, universities, and vocational institutions to create dynamic and interactive learning environments. We will explore how these technologies can enhance and engage learning processes at all levels of the Swedish education system, which is crucial for Sweden to maintain its strength in a rapidly changing global technological landscape. The seminar will specifically examine how XR can bridge theoretical knowledge and practical application, contributing to improved skills development and thereby strengthening competitiveness.
