Business Impact of the New U.S. Administration with Baker McKenzie

  • Baker McKenzie Vasagatan 7 111 20 Stockholm Sweden (map)

We are pleased to invite you to an insightful seminar on the Business Impact of the New US Administration, based on a comprehensive review by global law firm Baker McKenzie.

Stay ahead of the curve by gaining exclusive insights into the latest policy changes and how they will affect the operations of European businesses. This seminar will delve into the key policy positions and their significant implications for businesses globally, focusing on three topics:

1.     Trade and Tariffs: President-elect Trump’s second term will continue his “America first” approach to international trade, marked by unilateral actions, aggressive negotiation tactics, and a focus on reducing the trade deficit and protecting US industries.

2.     Dealmaking and Antitrust: Consistent with Trump’s campaign theme of alleviating “burdensome regulation” on business, the second-term Trump antitrust enforcement environment is generally expected to create a more merger-friendly regulatory environment and may facilitate an M&A boon.

3.     Tax Policy: The cornerstone of Trump’s second term will be to make permanent many of the provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that expire at the end of 2025, including the individual income tax provisions. Another important tax policy is the OECD's two-pillar tax approach is a global framework designed to address tax avoidance by large multinational companies. Pillar 1 reallocates taxing rights to countries where these companies operate, while Pillar 2 sets a global minimum tax rate to prevent tax base erosion through profit shifting to low-tax jurisdictions. Trump has opposed the OECD's two-pillar tax approach and instead threatened tariffs on countries participating in Pillar 2.

The ability of the new President to implement his plans will be heavily impacted by the makeup of Congress. With President-elect Trump’s party controlling the Senate and the House, Trump’s new administration will be well positioned to see its legislative agenda embraced by Congress in 2025.

We look forward to your participation in this important discussion.
